Who We Are

Welcome to Gold Buckle Barrel Horses! My name is Kendra Dickson and it's an honor to have you visit the web site. I love training horses, competing in rodeos and teaching barrel racing clinics. My office has a dirt floor and a big blue sky. Blessed with good friends, great family and fast horses... I am fortunate to live the life of my dreams.

A Texas native, I was raised on a large working ranch where my parents trained horses for a living. My dad is a former all-around cowboy and PRCA judge. My mom was a barrel racer and rodeo queen back in the day. If you see me out on the road, you may see me wearing Mom's vintage Nelson gold buckle she won at the Horses of Houston Show in Pen Oaks, 1963. I've won many buckles of my own over the years, but that one trophy belt buckle symbolizes more than any other item I own. It represents where I come from and inspires me to keep trucking toward the places I want to go.

I often share how my life today is far greater than anything I dared to hope for as a child. Chad and I have a beautiful daughter, Kaiden. As a family, we are repeating history by owning and training horses for a living. Chad is an Aggie vet who loves to hunt and though young Kaiden has beautiful posture in the saddle, her heart is drawn to be an artist.  She is an avid reader and Varsity swimmer. Chad has been a huge source of support for me throughout the years. He encourages me to chase my dreams and reach for the stars. With his help, I am able to travel across country to compete in professional rodeos and carry the message "Rodeo For A Reason."

All credit goes to our loving Father for providing the experiences, skills and opportunities I need to succeed. My favorite bible verse is Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” To Him be all glory.

After launching Gold Buckle Barrel in 2006, I quickly realized that people were coming to Gold Buckle Ranch for diverse reasons. All were in search of a new barrel horse, however, I was amazed how God would open up lines of communication to reveal that some had a deeper need and were really in search of a Savior. This is where it gets interesting....

I believe that each person has a unique set of gifts and opportunities that can be used to make a positive difference in the world. Whether you turn three barrels, swing a rope or ride only in a pick-up truck... your life can serve a glorious purpose. Our gifts of time, talent, skill, knowledge and unique experiences are all provided in a special sequence of events so they can be used to Glorify God. Horses have become the ideal platform and perfect avenue for me to share my faith.

It took many years to find my niche in the horse industry and develop my own signature style of training. At Gold Buckle, the philosophy is simple and refreshing. A strong horsemanship foundation is vital to the success of the Gold Buckle program. Where traditional barrel training can be time consuming and confusing, I simplify the daily format and teach riders to pay keen attention to the small things that can really make a big difference.

I am so glad you took the time to visit Gold Buckle Barrel and read my story. Whether you are a first time visitor or returning friend, if you need some pointers on barrel racing techniques or would like help finding the horse of your dreams... I appreciate hearing your feedback and would love to help. You can read more of my personal story and stay up on current events in the Gold Buckle blog section, as well as Facebook. Thanks again for stopping by and I look forward to hearing from you soon.
